Farooq A. Mitha obtained his law degree from the University of Florida Levin College of Law and holds a B.S. degree in Interdisciplinary Health Sciences from the University of South Florida. Farooq’s practice areas focus on civil litigation and legal and strategic consulting on issues related to the Middle East and South Asia. Outside of his legal practice Farooq is a specialist in international policy he has written opinion-editorials offering commentary on issues concerning the Middle East and the American political system, which have appeared in domestic and foreign publications.
Over the past six years Farooq has become proficient in Arabic, which he studied both in the United States, Syria and Jordan. Recently, Farooq completed research in Amman, Jordan as a Fulbright Fellow on Jordanian-Israeli relations. Throughout his time in the Middle East, Farooq travelled to several countries including Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
In 2009, Farooq coordinated a Track II diplomacy conference sponsored by Brandeis University and the Amman Center for Peace and Diplomacy, which brought together intellectuals and former government officials from Jordan, Israel, the Palestinian Territories, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Oman titled, “Operationalizing the Arab Initiative.” This two-day conference brought people together from opposing sides of the conflict to discuss crucial issues pertaining to the peace process.
Farooq also participated in the International Visitor Leadership Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, where he co-led a discussion on election reform in Lebanon where the dialogue focused on the American political system and challenges to reform in Lebanon.
Farooq has consulted for several political campaigns for candidates running for office at the local, state, and federal levels.
Most recently Farooq served on the National Finance Committee of President Barack Obama’s Presidential campaign and currently works with campaigns on issues, strategy, and fundraising.
Farooq is also involved with various charitable and nonprofit organizations such as the Aga Khan Development Network, Community Tampa Bay, and the Children’s Home Society of Florida where he serves on the statewide Board of Directors.
